Team Talks - Jack Taylor Product Manager

Our creatively and technically gifted Product Manager, Jack Taylor, is responsible for product know-how, insights, and integration wisdom, as well as bringing features and benefits to life, and making everything easy to understand. In his spare time he plays the guitar like the ghost of Hendrix.

Jack’s taken the time to tell us a bit about himself, and tell us why he loves our products…

Please tell me about your background?

I studied Graphic & Communication Design at the University of Leeds, and love all things creative. Whilst studying I developed an interest in the close relationship between graphics, UX and product design and the interplay between these different disciplines, and moved into that area, which has evolved into innovation design and management.

What made you want to work for Hello Soda?

First and foremost, it was the innovative solutions that Hello Soda offered. I found them interesting, impressive, important in the realms of online security, and nuanced. Identity verification and anti-fraud and anti-money laundering tools are essential in today’s world, and due to the nature of cybercrime, and hacking, they need to constantly evolve to ensure protection, and they need to evolve to be as efficient and effective as they possibly can be.

Apart from that, I loved the company culture, a youthful team of tech, analytics, delivery. An agile team, but with global results. It offers progression opportunities internally, and the products we’ve created stop fraud, which feels good!

We also have table tennis here, and beers on a Friday. So that was a draw too.

What do you do here?

I am the Product Manager, so I lead the delivery of our ID&V suite through from concept, branding, and product literature. I have a focus on user experience design and enjoy problem-solving through design-led solutions, for ways that work best for our clients, and for their customers.

What do you enjoy most?

I enjoy problem-solving and the creative freedom I have, which allows me to take Hello Soda’s products and design in exciting new directions. I love to develop a deep understanding of how our technology and software and analytics all work, for different clients, in different countries, and different situations. And then work out new ways of doing things, presenting things, the user experience, and so on.

If you had a superpower what would it be?

That would be to warp time and space, in order to stop the clock and get more done. There’s not enough hours in the day for me to do everything that I want to!

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I’m a part-time musician. I’m the lead guitarist in a band here in Manchester, and we do gigs regularly, up to 400 people or so. In a similar vein to my love of product design, which is functional, innovative, and looks good – I love guitars, amps, pedal boards, and how it can all work together to create something greater than the sum of each part. I’m also interested in music production, and animation, so anything techie that’s cool, or creative.

Have you got any exciting plans in your role for the next 6 months or so?

Yes, we’re going to diversify our identity verification and fraud prevention product suite by utilising further data sources, all still via a single API to maintain easy integration. And the tech team are working on some exciting developments.

What’s your favourite thing about working in the Hello Soda office?

What I love most is our agile team structure. Here in Manchester we work in small teams, in an agile way, to get things done quickly, but we’re global, and connected to other teams, and members, and partners all over the world. So we have a global mindset, and global results, but all of our work and innovation is fully connected, effective, and responsive on a day to day basis.

What makes the Hello Soda product offering special?

Hello Soda is renowned for its innovative analytics and customer insights. Our greatest value add in my opinion is aggregating physical and digital data, into scores that offer in-depth customer insights that traditional or singular identity verification methods can’t.

Our proprietary ID score, comprised of a range of sub scores, works in conjunction with our social fraud score to not only give confidence about a customer’s identity but also flag any account that is potentially fraudulent, through in-depth analysis of the breadth and depth of data associated with that account. Or in other words, we create greater clarity between multiple data points, which is faster than anyone else, and offers more than any other ID&V provider can, and stops fraud, while being seamless and designed to be easy for the customer to use. So all of that together is pretty special!

Thanks Jack!
